It was easy to book tickets in advance which meant we didn't have to queue. We were able to leave our backpack in a locker for free. The site is small enough for children to manage to get around. Very interesting visit and amazed to see so much preserved history. It felt very sad, though, as it is essentially a large burial ground. Was able to get key info online. A map would have helped which I might have got had I bought tickets locally. I didn't get the audio guide as very expensive and new my 9yo son wouldn't have the patience to listen to it.

Hercalanum is a very pretty site that complements Pompeii. I strongly recommend doing both with an audioguide, as the visit will be all the more interesting. But if you want to do them in 1 day, get up early and take good shoes. It's like stepping back in time.

Our guide Francesca was very knowledgable, very thourough and very interesting. We saw a big part of the site with her during her 2 hour tour, then she pointed us to the unmissable things in Pompei... we ended up spending 7 hours on site and saw almost every thing open to visitors. Not everything can be seen... it is as big as 66 football fields... you'd need more than a day to inspect every corner. However a full day is highly recommended, starting with a tour with Francesca, who will explain a lot, and will make you want to see more, with an open eye:)

Ticketing very good but when we got to Pompeii it was quite chaotic. It didn't seem to matter what time you booked for, and seemed to be a general free-for-all! No complaints about your end of things, I just think they need to get their act together when processing people arriving. The tour was excellent and we had a really good guide!

Luciano Leone was a brilliant tour guide, incredibly knowledgeable. My family and I were super impressed and really really enjoyed our visit to herculaneum because of this tour. Luciano talked a brilliant amount and his personality and humour shone through, which made the experience.

Easy to book at short notice online for the same day. We really enjoyed the archaeological site of Herculean and there was so much still intact and preserved. He kept apologising for his English it was better when he talked slower.

The tour of Herculaneum was brilliant and the guide, Danilo, was very knowledgeable. My only gripe may have been my own fault. I followed the directions in the email, thinking that was to the meeting point, wrong, it was to the backdoor of the Archeology Unit. On re-reading the email I found a second set of directions to the meeting point. My wife was not impressed with my navigating.

Easy access from the metro. Free lockers. Loved the large area to take in views from above. Grounds weren't too massive, easy to cover and enjoy in a reasonable amount of time.

Tickets were easy to purchase and use upon arrival. Staff were polite. Herculaneum was clean, easy to navigate, and incredibly well preserved. If have kids, or just don't feel up to wandering Pompeii in the summer heat, Herculaneum is smaller and arguably more beautiful.

Historically wonderful but No seats or resting places as it takes several hours to fully see the site No real cafe, current cafe very poor and we spent almost a whole day seeing the site Audio guide was often confusing as talked about places we could not enter Many "rooms" were closed off for no apparent reason ( particularly the male baths ) It would be interesting if the account of the eruption was detailed and the subsequent change of the coastline explained A staged mock up of a typical room with furniture and arti facts of the period or even better , found on the excavation would be enlightening Photographs of workers in the bakery did not reflect the relevant period, very strange

What was achieved by the scientists and their assistants to make posterity understand what a volcanic eruption causes and also the way of life of the people at that time.

We didn't need the skip the queue tickets as there was no queue. We really enjoyed it. Found it more fulfilling than Pompei (apart from the forum) and quieter.

Very interesting experience, it was the first time I used 3D glasses on an excursion, very good. Alessia was my guide in Spanish, her knowledge, sympathy and good predisposition to answer my questions made the two hours pass without us noticing. Constructive criticism, why not start the excursion earlier when the park opens, and avoid the sun and heat at 10:30 am?

You’ve heard of the frightening yet awe-inspiring fury of Vesuvius, and you want to see how it played out in 79 AD. You find yourself in Herculaneum, one of the finest preserved towns left of ancient Rome. Remarkably, what destroyed this quaint town is also what preserved it. Ready to enter through the gates of the Archeological Park of Herculaneum? Book skip-the-line tickets to cut the queues and discover the tragic glory of yesteryear.

Why should you book skip-the-line tickets to Herculaneum?

Herculaneum skip-the-line tickets
  • Bid goodbye to the crowds: Although Herculaneum is not a crowded destination generally, during the peak season, it can take longer than usual to get past the ticketing office and enter the site. With skip-the-line tickets, you can bypass these queues to enter the archeological park without hassle.
  • Get more time inside the park: You can expect to save at least 20-30 minutes with your priority access tickets. The time saved in standing in long queues can be spent in walking through the ruins at your own pace. You never know when you might need the extra few minutes to linger at a fresco, or gaze out to the stunning view of the Bay of Naples.
  • Your ticket might also include a bonus: It’s a great idea to book priority access tickets that offer guided tours. This way, your guide can whisk you inside and you can begin your visit smoothly. Bonus: you get insider information about the site from a knowledgeable guide!

How to skip the lines at Herculaneum

  1. Book tickets online: Pre-booking tickets helps you save time that on-spot tickets don’t guarantee. You can also choose a time and date of your convenience when you book tickets online.
  2. Book skip-the-line tickets: This one’s obvious, but only this ticket type will help you bypass the long queues that are likely to arise during peak season (the summer months between June and September). Basic entry tickets and even certain combo tickets don’t offer this feature.
  3. Avail a guided tour: Booking a guided tour also gives you the benefit of bypassing the queues and heading straight into the attraction. Your guide, after confirming your tickets, will begin your tour without delay.
  4. Take an early hours tour: Timings matter. Entering the park before 11am offers the best chances of a peaceful and relaxed visit. Crowds are thinner and the weather is also more agreeable. If you’ve opted for a guided tour, your guide is also likely to be fresh and ready for a new day. While planning your visit, try to make the most of the early hours.

Frequently asked questions about Herculaneum skip-the-line tickets

Can I purchase last minute skip-the-line tickets to Herculaneum?

Yes, although we do offer last minute tickets, it’s best to book priority access tickets in advance as they are highly in demand. Especially during peak season (i.e. the summer months and holiday months like December and January), these tickets get sold out quickly, so we recommend that you buy these tickets beforehand.

Do my skip-the-line tickets offer additional benefits?

Some priority access tickets also come with guided tour options and audio guides. These will cost anywhere between €10-30 extra for the added benefit of an educational experience.

Can I choose a specific time slot while booking skip-the-line tickets?

Yes, at the time of booking, you have the option to choose the date and time you’d like to make your visit. This feature helps you plan your visit and time it well (we understand you may want to see nearby attractions too) to make the most of your experience.

Can I cancel or reschedule my skip-the-line tickets?

You can cancel your skip-the-line experience with an archeologist up to 24 hours beforehand. Unfortunately, the experience cannot be canceled or rescheduled.

Can I use my Herculaneum skip-the-line tickets to enter and exit the site multiple times a day?

Once you exit the Archeological Park of Herculaneum, it is not possible to re-enter with the same ticket, skip-the-line or otherwise.
